Remote Control (490-0796) Installing Pin/Door Switches Faxback Doc. # 8944 Alarm System The pin switches mount along the inside edge of the edge of the trunk and hood, so that opening and closing the hood or trunk trips the switch and sends a signal to the control module. To mount the pin switches, do the following: 1. Find suitable mounting locations on the framing around the hood and trunk presses down the pin switch. 2. Using a pin switch as a guide, mark the position for the holes. 3. Drill 9/32-inch holes at the chosen locations. 4. Coat the drilled holes with an anti-corrosion compound or heavy grease to prevent rust. 5. Mount the pin switches with the provided nuts and washers. 6. Adjust each pin switch so that it is pressed down at least 1/4-inch when you close the hood or trunk. WIRE THE DOOR SWITCHES This system uses the existing door switches to activate the alarm. First determine the type of door switch connections your vehicle has. If you are not sure what type of door switch your vehicle has, contact your vehicle dealer. Many vehicles have a single connection at the dome or courtesy light that connects to each door. If your vehicle has this wiring system and the vehicle does not have a delayed dome light, use the provided instructions for your type of vehicle. If, however, your vehicle has a dome light that turns on before you open the door or delays turning off after you close the door, we suggest you have a professional install the system. ALL DOMESTIC FORD PRODUCTS With the supplied squeeze connector, connect the supplied violet wire's insulated end to the door switch wire. This connects the terminal to chassis ground when the door is closed, and +12 volts when the door is opened. Connect the wire's stripped end to the control module's Terminal 11. * General Motors, Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Datsun/Nissan, Flat, Fiesta, Isuzu, Mazda, Renault, Subaru, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo with the supplied squeeze connector, connect the supplied gray wire's insu- lated end to the door switch wire. This connects to +12 volts when the door is closed, and to chassis ground. When the door is opened. Connect the wire's stripped end to the control module's Terminal 12. * Others Use a voltmeter or test lamp to determine whether the separate door switch wires or the single wire leading from the door switch to the courtesy light is connected to + 12 volts or to chassis ground when the door is opened. If they are connected to + 12 volts when the door is opened, use the provided violet wire. If they are connected to + 12 volts when the door is closed, use the gray wire. Note: Mercedes switches vary with each model. Some might use both wires. Check your auto dealer. Caution: If you make connection to a single door switch wire in the dome or courtesy light, use either the gray or violet wire, not both. Using both wires could damage the alarm system. Wire The Pin Switches Follow these steps to connect the pin switches to the control module. 1. Connect one of the supplied, unattached brown wires to the hood pin switch and the other brown wire to the truck pin switch by plugging the wire's bullet end into each pin switch. 2. Connect the other end of the two brown wires to the control module's Terminal 12. (SMC/jlc-03/22/94)
