Remote Control (490-0796) Installing the Antenna Faxback Doc. # 8945 Alarm System The antenna wire (black with the clear end), which is preconnected to the control module, is used for receiving the remote arm/disarm signal. You can run this wire along the upper edge of the windshield, an inch from the top, and secure it with tape, or you can run it between the dashboard and the windshield. Connect Antenna Leads If your vehicle has a radio antenna, follow the steps below. 1. Disconnect the antenna lead cable coming from the back of your radio. 2. Insert the lead into the ANT jack on the control module. 3. Plug one end of the supplied radio antenna lead into the antenna jack on the radio. 4. Plug the lead's other end into the control module's RAD jack. Notes: If your radio is not digital, you might need to readjust the radio for the best AM reception after you connect the control module to the radio. See the owner's manual for your radio for instructions on readjusting. If your vehicle does not have a radio antenna, you can use a CB antenna with an adapter (Cat. No. 278-208) to connect the antenna to the antenna to the control module's ANT jack. The RAD jack can be left unused. You must connect an antenna before you make the power connections. CONNECT TO A POWER ANTENNA If your vehicle has a power antenna, follow the instructions for your vehicle's type of antenna. If your vehicle does not have a power antenna, go to the next section. SEMI-AUTOMATIC ANTENNA If your antenna has a dash-mounted switch, leave the antenna up to provide the maximum paging range. FULLY AUTOMATIC ANTENNA An automatic antenna has a power antenna sensor input wire. This wire normally connects to the radio's switched power lead (SPL) so that when you turn on the radio, the antenna automatically raises. Caution: Follow the connection instructions carefully. An incorrect connection could damage the antenna or stereo. To wire the antenna so that it automatically raises when the alarm activates do the following: 1. Disconnect the radio's SPL wire. 2. Connect the supplied, orange wire's female quick disconnect end to the SPL wire's radio side. 4. Connect the orange wire's stripped end to the control module's Terminal 15. (SMC/jlc-03/22/94)
