Remote Control (490-0796) Install Starter Disable Faxback Doc. # 8946 Alarm System To install the starter disable module, do the following: 1. Set AUTO/BYPASS to AUTO 2. Choose a location near your vehicle's starter solenoid for mounting the disable module. See "Connect the Starter Disable Module" for more information about the starter solenoid. 3. Use the starter disable module's mounting holes as a guide and start the screw holes by drilling two pilot holes inside the engine compartment. Be careful not to drill into the vehicle's suspension system, wiring, or the fender. 4. Secure the starter disable module by inserting the supplied screws through the mounting holes and into the engine compartment wall. CONNECT THE STARTER SIDSABLE MODULE To connect your starter disable module, you must determine what type of mounting system your vehicle uses for the starter solenoid and use the correct instructions. Most Ford vehicle's starter solenoids are mounted on the fender, while most other vehicle's solenoids are mounted on the engine starter. MOST FORDS For most Fords, do the following: 1. Locate the starter solenoid mounted on the fender. 2. Locate and cut the wire connecting the starter relay to the ignition key. Note: If you are unsure about the starter relay-ignition key wire, ask your mechanic, or have a professional install your system. 3. Attach the supplied male quick-disconnect terminal to the wire's starter relay side. 4. Attach the supplied female quick-disconnect terminal to the wire's ignition key side. 5. Connect the disable module's red wire to the appropriate male/female quick disconnect terminals you installed. 6. Route the disable module's black and yellow wire with socket to the control module. 7. Plug the wire's socket into the socket terminal behind Terminal 9. The socket terminal looks like it is missing a pin. This is normal. Note: To disconnect the starter disable module and reconnect the relay wire, simply disconnect the module's red wires and reconnect the relay wire with terminals. For vehicles where the solenoid is not mounted on the fender, do the following: 1. Locate the starter solenoid. 2. Locate and cut the wire connecting the starter relay to the ignition key. Note: If you are unsure about the starter relay-to-ignition key wire, ask your mechanic, or have a professional install the system. 3. Attach the supplied male quick-disconnect terminal to the wire's starter relay side. 4. Attach the supplied female quick-disconnect terminal to the wire's ignition key side. 5. Connect the starter disable module's red wires to the appropriate male/female quick-disconnect terminals you installed. 6. Route the disable module's black and yellow wire with socket to the control module. 7. Plug the wire's socket into the control module's socket behind Terminal 9. The socket looks like it is missing a pin. This is normal. Note: To disconnect the starter disable module and reconnect the relay wire, simply disconnect the module's wire with the terminals.
