Downloads for Model 2121

The files in this section are for the IBM PS/1 – 2121 computer, not the Sony PlayStation 1!

Donations are welcome! I’m looking for ROM images of the various 386-16 international models with the ROM drive. If you are interested in contributing, please see below in the utility section for a program to dump the ROM BIOS.
Support disks, original preloaded software, and backups are also very welcome.

ROM images

PS1_2121_ROM_US.zip – P/N 92F9674, w/ ROM drive, US version
PS1_2121_ROM_SP.zip – P/N 92F9622, 92F9606, w/ ROM drive, spanish version
PS1_2121_ROM.zip – P/N 93F2455, w/o ROM drive (used on US and international models)

ROMs with PC DOS 4.01 and the 4-quad GUI in a ROM drive were used in early 386-16 models. IBM removed the ROM drive in all later 386-20 models, moving the O.S. on the HDD.

Drivers

PS/1 Audio Card driver for Windows 3.1
Driver is limited in its capabilities (See README.TXT). Install: Move file to an empty directory. From DOS and the directory containing the file, enter: PS1AUDWD. See the README.TXT file, included, for further install instructions.

PS/1 2121 CD-ROM drivers
These CD-Rom drivers are for the IBM CD-ROM drive expansion unit for PS/1 2121 computer Install: Create a directory on drive C: called CDROM. Move the file to that directory. From DOS and directory containing file, enter: 2121CD to expand the file. See the INSTALL.TXT file for more information

UNIXBOOT.EXE – Fix for UNIX not recognizing HDD controller
Self-extracting file that fixes the problem where UNIX does not correctly recognize the Hard Drive controller in the IBM PS/1. There are instructions for its use in the UNIXBOOT.TXT file enclosed.

Utility programs

CUSTOMIZ.EXE – used to customize the way the machine operates (eg. if you want to boot directly to DOS or from a floppy)

CONFIGUR.EXE – used to update the machine configuration after a hardware modification.

BPP.ZIP – Bidirectional Parallel Port by Krister Nordvall
Enables/Disables parallel port bidirectional mode on IBM PS/1 2011/2121 computers.

4quad6-2.exe – 4-Quad screen for MS-DOS 6.2x. This updates the 4-Quadrant screen for use with MS-DOS 6.2, 6.21 or 6.22. Installation: insert disk into the A: drive. From the DOS prompt type: 4QUAD6-2 A: (The A: is very important). Then type ‘INSTALL’. See the README.TXT text file on the diskette for further installation instructions.

ROMDUMP.EXE – a program I wrote to dump the ROM.
This program was created to dump the model 2011 ROM, but it should work for 2121 as well.
Put the EXE in a floppy disk with at least 300KiB (US) / 600KiB (intl.) of free space.
Usage: ROMDUMP us|intl
Use ‘us’ if you have got the US version, use ‘intl’ otherwise.

CMOSDUMP.EXE – a program I wrote to dump the CMOS memory to a file called CMOS.BIN

ROMDUMP.EXE and CMOSDUMP.EXE are open source software under the GPL license. You can find the source code at the IBMulator git repo.

Disk images / Preloaded software

Files with the IMG extension are disk images. In order to use a floppy disk image on a real machine, transfer it on a 3.5″ 1.44MB floppy using a program like WinImage or, if you are on Linux, the dd command. Don’t copy the .img file and don’t unpack its content on the floppy, it won’t work.

dos401_2121.img – IBM PC-DOS 4.01, bootable, starts with a GUI and includes CUSTOMIZ.EXE and CONFIGUR.EXE

ps1diag2.img – IBM Advanced Diagnostics Diskette for PS/1 2121. Bootable.

PS1_2121_HDDFILES_US.zip – HDD preloaded software, US version
PS1_2121_HDDBKP_US.zip – same software but as a backup set (floppy images)
Software included: IBM DOS R4.01, Microsoft Works 2.0, Prodigy, Promenade, Tutorial.
It was the preloaded software of the following systems: PS/1 2121-C42, G42.

PS1_2121_HDDFILES_WIN_US.zip – HDD preloaded software w/ Windows, US version
PS1_2121_HDDBKP_WIN_US.zip – same software but as a backup set (floppy images)
Software included: IBM DOS R4.01, Microsoft Windows 3.0, Microsoft Works 2.0, Microsoft Productivity Pack, Prodigy, Promenade, Tutorial.
It was the preloaded software of the following systems: PS/1 2121-A62, A82, B82, C92, S92, and possibly others.
